An independent recruiter, recruiting agency or executive search firm is
charged with tracking down excellent potential candidates for available
job positions. Despite the fact that there are innumerable people
seeking positions of employment in the 21st century, it often seems to
a typical recruiting agency that qualified men and women are few and
far between. Here are six easy tips that recruiting services, staffing firms, or
executive search firms should keep in mind when on the hunt for
outstanding potential job candidates in the 21st century.
What are you interested in? We all have a passion for something. So, what is your passion? Are you actively seeking information about your passion? Knowledge, providing it is correct knowledge, will increase your power.
Here's how to prepare for and avoid the negative perception of being "overqualified" for a job.
Have you ever gone through the interview process, felt confident that
you'd performed extremely well, and then heard these dreadful words:
"I'm sorry, but we feel you're overqualified for this position."
When people talk about enrichment, they are usually thinking of
financial enrichment. (Show me the money!) But, we can enrich many
other aspects of our lives too such as: spiritual, mental, physical,
and social, as examples. Winning the multi-dollar lotto is not
impossible, but are you spending your life waiting for your fortune to
come to you? For those of you that feel powerless at work, you have
more control over your destiny than you think you do.
Losing my job in the last recession of the last century, I discovered
first hand the power of creating your own luck. A week later, I decided
to locate an interim position while I looked for a "real" one.
Accepting a temporary position at minimum wage in an industry I knew
little about, I decided the way to enjoy the position was to learn
everything I could and contribution all that I could. I poured over
manuals in my down time, developed processes to expedite the work,
trained new employees, volunteered for additional assignments, and did
anything that needed to be done. Four weeks into a ten week job, I was
unexpectedly offered my first management position.
I like Simon, one of three judges on American Idol. I find his feedback
refreshingly honest. And while his words startle me with their ego
wounding potential, the traditional feel-good, let-you-down-easy,
sugar-coated feedback is not much of a gift. It’s hard to tell someone
they’re not good enough and their dreams are not going to happen, at
least in this venue. But not telling them is no gift either. Some
contestants rise to the challenges he throws at them. Some don’t. And,
some can’t. Which one are you?
What is a Virtual Assistant? This is a question you've probably asked
yourself if you have heard of the title "Virtual Assistant." A Virtual
Assistant (VA) is an independent contractor and a home-based
entrepreneur who uses the Internet, phone, fax, email, and other
technology to communicate with his/her clients.
Distance learning is a fabulous new way to get an advanced education.
It allows you to work at home on your own schedule and it allows you to
set your own pace for learning. But remember, you still have to do all
of the work. It’s just like that old saying, easy does it; but do it!!
Distance learning is a great advance forward in making education more
accessible to millions of Americans who would simply not have the time
or resources to obtain a college degree or technical certificate. It
allows people from all over the country, even in remote or rural areas
to plug into technology that lets them learn, at their own speed and on
their own time.
Have
you ever complained about meetings which seem to be a waste of our
time. Well the truth of the matter is that so many meetings are exactly
that - a complete waste of time. We've also seen the "corridor" meeting
that takes place afterwards where it seems the real decisions are
taken, or the agreed decisions are overturned. Want to do it better?
The most prominent trend in the employment screening industry has been
a proliferation of online databases offering cheap background checks.
Any one can access the internet and with a quick search be able to
purchase, for example, criminal records for a low fee. While that is
very appealing to companies looking to trim the budget on background
checks, it may in fact be a dangerous trend.
Leaving a job is often a difficult step. Sure, there is the exciting
opportunity to do something different, but if have been with an
employer for over a year this can become an emotional step. People
leave jobs for various reasons. The old job might just plain and simple
suck. The pay is lousy and the boss is behaving like a dictator of a
3rd world country. Or the job might be target of outsourcing and the
employee is pro-active by looking for his/her own way out. Or the job
is a dead end. No opportunity and the daily routine is boring. It could
also be that the immediate co-workers and managers are just not as nice
and that there is no great work relationship that makes the employee to
love to go to work. A not so exciting job can still be a great place to
work if you have great co-workers and managers around. Work is about
money, but the socializing part is important, too.
