Once upon a time, we used to turn to our parents or grandparents when
something was wrong with our little ones. More often than not, now we
turn to our doctors. Unfortunately, our doctors were never taught what
our grandmothers learned from their mothers, methods that have been
tried and true for centuries. Here is a not-so-complete list of some of
my favorites passed down from my Grandma.
Chemistry will tell you that an amino acid is any molecule that has
both carboxylic acid and amino functional groups. They are the basic
building units of a protein. In biochemistry, the shorter and more
general term is used to refer to alpha amino acids. Those are amino
acids wherein the amino and carboxylate functionalities are attached to
a common carbon. Amino acids' residue is what's left of an amino acid
once a water molecule has been lost in the formation of a peptide bond.
Peptides are polymer chains which form the protien in our bodies.
Eczema can be a burden. It is a skin condition that can range in
severity from dry, red patches on your skin to cracked, weeping sores.
Eczema is caused by many factors such as genetics and allergic
reactions. No matter the cause of your eczema it is important to find
eczema relief. Eczema relief can come in many forms such as home
remedies to medications from your doctor.
Commonly abbreviated as Hb, Hemoglobin, or Heamoglobin, is the iron
containing oxygen in our red blood cells which transport
metalloproteins. All mammals on earth have hemoglobin, as it is a
necessary function in the blood. It contains globin, apoprotien, and
four heme groups (organic molecules with one atom of iron attached to
each). The gene for the hemoglobin protien can sometimes mutate. This
occurence results in one or more of many diseases, but most commonly
turns into Thalassemia or Sickle-cell disease.
Asthma treatment is a growing field in the health care community.
Because so many people, particularly children, are being diagnosed with
the condition, a number of families are looking for innovative asthma
treatment programs. In general, asthma treatment can be divided into
two categories: long-term control and quick-relief medications.
Let’s begin by learning some facts in order to separate truth from myth
with regards to back pain. First of all, under one percent of acute
lower back pain is the result of a serious infection or condition like
cancer or a spinal injury. For those under 50, the rate is even lower.
Back pain is the number one disability for those under age 45. And it
runs second, after the common cold, as the top reason for visiting a
healthcare provider in the United States.
There are two basic types of constipation - organic and functional.
Organic constipation is a result of some physical change, obstruction,
or distortion in your colon. This type of constipation needs immediate
attention from a doctor.
For people who want to have a loved one undergo drug testing or for
anyone who just wants to go through a drug testing, here are some
highly important points to take note of when it comes to drug testing
and substance abuse. It really is high time for people all across the
United States, even the entire world, to really put some greater
importance on the life threatening risks that are involved when it
comes to drugs and various other substance abuses.
Hemorrhoids are a very common medical problem affecting both men and
women. It is estimated that over 80% of Americans will have some
dealing with hemorrhoids in their lifetime. Over half a million people
seek medical help for hemorrhoids annually in the United States, and of
that half million at least ten percent undergo surgical procedures for
relief of their hemorrhoids.
If you live in North America you likely have seen the television
commercials featuring an intentionally sappy character named “Smiling
Bob.” According to the commercial broadcasts, Bob is smiling because he
has more satisfying erections because of his use of a natural male
enhancement known as Enzyte. (The commercials make the point that Bob’s
wife is a most happy spouse as well since Bob began taking Enzyte to
enhance his maleness.)
Patchouli's History and Uses Ah, Patchouli oil - people seem to love it or hate it. This well know
essential oil has a somewhat deserved reputation as the scent of the
Hippy generation (according to one source, it's use began as a mask for
the odor of a particularly cherished herb), though it's traditional use
dates back hundreds, perhaps thousands of years. Today, Patchouli oil
has a well-deserved reputation in aromatherapy, with it's deep, musky,
and sweet odor, and Earth and Fire balancing energy. It is an exotic
aroma that can forever leave an imprint on the olfactory memory.
The results are in, the clinical trials have spoken. Drinking relieves
stress--drinking green tea, that is. There's something in green tea
that helps us relax. And it may start turning up in other foods soon.
There are many causes of allergies. Some people are allergic to foods
such as nuts, chocolate, and shellfish, some to medicines. Some suffer
from allergies to animal dander such as cats, some from seasonal
allergies such as pollen in the springtime or ragweed in the late
summer and fall. Some allergies bring on contact dermatitis in the form
of hives or eczema.
Ah, Wonderful Rose Oil If there's an aroma that more individuals find deeply moving than any
other, it is the oil of rose. The scent is divinely sweet, rich, and
deeply floral - exclusive to the extract of history's most revered
flower. Though the rose is renown for it's fragrance, the flower
actually contains very little aromatic oil by weight. Some 60,000 roses
are needed to distill a single ounce of oil, or about 60 roses PER
DROP, a fact which brings the seemly high cost of rose oil into
perspective.
Aromatherapy Goes 'High Tech' New methods of essential oil extraction are entering the mainstream of
aromatherapy, offering new choices in oils never before available. With
the new labels of 'CO2' and 'SCO2', along with the traditional 'steam'
and 'hydro' distillations, 'absolutes', and 'cold pressing', a little
education for the aromatherapy enthusiast can go a long way in
essential oil selection. Is one process better than another? Does one
produce a nicer smelling oil, or one with greater aromatherapeutic
value? It turns out that essential oil production, like winemaking, is
an art form as well as a science. The value of the newer processing
methods depends greatly on the experience of the distiller, as well as
the intended application of the final product. Each method is
important, and has it's place in the making of aromatherapy-grade
essential oils.
About Flower Essence Therapy Use of flower essences is an extremely safe therapy for shifting
emotional states which may be causing or perpetuating outward
physiological illness. Developed by homeopath, naturopath, and allopath
Dr. Edward Bach in the 1930's, these liquid preparations are intended
to work in subtle ways on one's emotional/spiritual energetic patterns.
Through repeated dosage, essences have helped individuals release
'negative' emotions or fears, and support transformation to higher
states of health and wellness.
Unless you live in a cave or without human interaction, you are
probably familiar with the term, ‘yeast infection’. But do you know
exactly what a yeast infection is? The actual medical term for a yeast
infection, which is also known as thrush, is Candidiasis. Candidiasis
is a fungal infection having to do with any of the Candida variety,
which is basically any of the yeast-like imperfect fungi of the genus
Candida. While every living person has some type of yeast organisms
living in them, the yeast doesn’t normally overgrow due to
microorganisms that occur naturally in the body.
In a paper, published in "Science" in May 2005, 25 scientists, led by
Woo Suk Hwang of Seoul National University, confirmed that they were
able to clone dozens of blastocysts (the clusters of tiny cells that
develop into embryos). Blastocysts contain stem cells that can be used
to generate replacement tissues and, perhaps, one day, whole organs.
The fact that cloned cells are identical to the original cell
guarantees that they will not be rejected by the immune system of the
recipient.
I. Definitions of Types of Euthanasia Euthanasia, whether in a medical setting (hospital, clinic, hospice) or
not (at home) is often erroneously described as "mercy killing". Most
forms of euthanasia are, indeed, motivated by (some say: misplaced)
mercy. Not so others. In Greek, "eu" means both "well" and "easy" and
"Thanatos" is death.
I have to thank my son’s bump on the head for some of my conviction
about the benefit of Bach flower remedies. Jon was about a year old and
had hit his head quite badly. The bump was swelling before my eyes, and
I decided to try out the Bach rescue cream that I’d recently purchased.
The bump was partly in his hair and partly on his forehead. I carefully
put the cream on – it was difficult to get the cream close to the skin
where his hair was. The next day the bruise on his forehead had gone
completely, but the bruise in his hair was still there, although it was
not as bad as I had expected it to be. This amazed me and made me
determined to learn about these amazing remedies.
If you are getting 'harried' by unwanted hair, if you are desperately
seeking solutions for liberation from the vicious cycles of waxing and
shaving, if like enlightened souls you are also searching for
permanence in your life, then you need stop looking at quick fix
solutions for hair removal and focus on the long term options that
truly deliver on their promise. Here you will get to know in brief
about two permanent hair removal solutions - Hair removal by
electrolysis and laser hair removal.
When I was a boy we lived in the Ghettoes of Toronto, Canada. We had
just immigrated from Trinidad and Tobago. My mother struggled to raise
four of us on a waitress’ salary. There was chaos and self-destruction
all around us. Many of my playmates are no longer among the living. But
none of this touched us- we were living a different life. My mother was
a church-lady. She was strong and resilient and strict. All of us grew
up in the church. The church kept us insulated from most of the horrors
of poverty.
Descriptive
criteria aside, what is the essence of mental disorders? Are they
merely physiological disorders of the brain, or, more precisely of its
chemistry?
